Same for me. I read recently an interesting bit of trivia about this film. It was originally produced to be a television show and was shot in 1:33.1 (full screen) aspect ratio. After the decision to release it as a movie the aspect ratio was adjusted to widescreen(2:35.1).
I like to watch Varan The Unbelievable(1958) every now and then(the original Toho version). The American version(released to American theaters in 1962), which includes (the late)American actor Myron Healey and others not in the original version, is little more than a novelty to me. The roar of the monster sounds little more than a dog growling in the American version, as opposed to the more satisfying roar of the creature in the original version.
